Being a journalist is never an easy task, as one needs to run behind a crime and always risks his life. On one hand, while the journalists are getting the bravery award for exposing the Panama Papers, on the other hand, Indian Journalists are getting brutally killed for exposing the hidden truth.

10. Gauri Lankesh

The killing of Gauri Lankesh was one of the most brutal incidents that happened. It started off when the Kannada Writer was writing about the failures of his own government. She was shot dead for her staunch views on right wing politics. She was murdered on 5 September, 2017 in Bangalore.

9. Shivani Bhatnagar

Shivani Bhatnagar was the special correspondent for a well known English daily newspaper, 'Indian Express'. She was murdered on 23 January 1999 by Ravi Kant Sharma, an IPS officer. Sharma surrendered to Delhi Police and told that he was afraid that Shivani would expose their "intimate" relations.

8. Jyotirmoy Dey

Jyotirmoy Dey was a crime and investigations editor in MiD DAY Newspaper & was an expert on Mumbai underworld. J Dey was shot dead on 11 June 2011 by four unidentified motorcyle-borne gunmen at Powai near Hiranandani Gardens. According to Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy who was also the incharge of the case, the shootout was carried out by the orders of Chhota Rajan.

7. Govind Pansare

The senior CPI leader and a fellow journalist, Govind Pansare was actually murdered under the mysterious circumstances in the year of 2015. His views against the right wing politics had caused some damage to them. He was shot dead in Kolhapur on 16 February, 2015 ,when he was having a morning walk with his wife.

6. Jagendra Singh

Short in height, Jagendra Singh reached his heights of bravery who dared to take on Minister Rammurti Singh Verma in UP. On June 8, 2015, he was burnt to death in Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh by his opponent.

5. Sandeep Kothari

Sandeep Kothari was originally a freelance journalist who used to work for Nayi Duniya. He was murdered in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh because he was exposing various scams in Illegal mining as well as land grabbing. He opened up a massive scam which covered up those activities which further led to an investigation.

Kalburgi was a man who had a modern mindset mixed with the traditional culture of India. He was shot dead in his residence at Dharwad by an unidentified gunman back in August, 2015. He was a sure threat to religion oriented politics and exposed many naked truths.

3. Narendra Dabholkar

Dabholkar was behind all those religious leaders who used to spread blind following among the masses. He was shot dead by two youths who fired three times and then fled away. Dabholkar was in his hometown Pune when he was brutally murdered.

Rajdev was a journalist based out of Siwan Bihar. The attack on him received a major attention from Media and was observed as a severe threat to journalism. He was after Mohammad Shahabuddin, an MP from Rashtriya Janata Dal who was involved in a murder of two brothers. He was shot by bike prone attackers.

Almost we all know how important this man is for the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim. In fact, he was the owner of an evening daily Poora Sach based in Sirsa, Haryana. He was the only one who took courage to publish the anonymous letters accusing Gurmeet Ram Rahim of rape charges. He was shot dead on October 14 2002 by two motorcyclist.
