India holds a long history of rich heritage encompassing historic forts, ancient temples, dazzling Mughal architecture. My traveling buddies if you want to peek into the alluring historical marvels of India, so here I have curated the list of unmatchable places in India which have gained popularity across the world.

Agartala, Tripura

The capital of the Indian state of  Tripura is the second largest city in North-East India after Guwahati. This city entices the excursionists and sightseers with its past splendor.  The name Agartala derived from the words Agar and tala consisting of a heavy density of Agaru tree, Agar was referred in the context of great king Raghu who tied up his Elephant feet with Agar tree on the banks of Lauhitya. Agartala is abundantly blessed with a forest cover adding to the charm of the city. Ujjayanta Palace, Jagannath Temple, Lakshmi Narayan Temple are the must-visit tourist places in Agartala.

St. George Church

Adoor is a traditional town in the district of Pathanamthitta in Kerala, famed as the Home of God as the history of Adoor thrives with a number of ancient temples. With the passage of time, this town has grown and today the town has become the nerve center of festivity in Kerala.  Parthasarathy Temple of Lord Krishna is one of the major attractions of the town. St. George Orthodox Church and St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral are two imminent Christian monuments that draw many devotees, Moolam market, one of the oldest markets in Kerala, offers travelers a unique shopping experience.

Aihole, Karnataka

Lad Khan Temple

The town with numerous temple is regarded as symbols that stand testimony to the evolving styles of the Chalukya kings. Aihole was the first capital of the Chalukyas. This historical town situated on the banks of Malaprabha River in Bagalkot district of Karnataka. There are around 125 Chalukya temples in Aihole. The Lad Khan Temple is the oldest temple in the town. Other famous temples are Durga Temple, Meguti Jain Temple,
Hucchimalli Temple, Gowda Temple, Ravanphadi Cave. 

Ahmednagar, Maharashtra

Ahmednagar district is the largest district in Maharashtra. The Ahmednagar Fort is one of the major attractions in the city. It signifies Ahmed Nizam Shah’s victorious capture of the Daulatabad Fort. The Salabat Khan’s Tomb, the Bagh Rauza, the Kot Bagha Nizam are few other historical sites. The Mohata Devi Temple, The Siddheshwar Temple, the Shri Vishal Ganpati Temple, and the Sant Dyaneshwar Temple are few religious spots in the city.

Bharatpur, Rajasthan

Lohagarh Fort

Bharatpur is known as ‘Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan’ and is an important travel destination. An ancient city, built by Maharaja Suraj Mal, is a bird watcher’s paradise, world-famous for its national park.  It houses more than 364 species of migratory birds from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, China, and Siberia. Bharatpur exhibits an influence of the Rajput, the Mughal, and the British architectural styles. The Lohagarh Fort is one of the renowned forts in the state of Rajasthan. Other tourist attractions include Deeg Fort, the Bharatpur Palace, Gopal Bhavan, and the Government Museum. 

The Bankebihari Temple, the Ganga Temple, and the Laxman Temple are some of the prominent religious centers in Bharatpur.

Badami, Karnataka

Founded by the Chalukyas, Badami in Karnataka is famous for its beautiful cave temples. The Rock Cut Cave Temples are the main tourist attraction in Badami. There are four cave temples in Badami and each shrine has intricate carvings, depicting the mythological events and religious teachings of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. Beside the cave temple, there are three Shiva temples on the north hill, of which the Malegitti Shivalaya is perhaps the most famous.

Bagalkot, Karnataka

Bagalkot is a major center of trade, commerce, education, and industries. Bagalkot has a few attractions that are worth exploring. Temples that are worth visiting here for their intricate architecture and carvings; Sri Bhavani, Panduranga and Kothalesh. Panka Masjid is a popular mosque here.

Bundi, Rajasthan

Taragarh Fort

Located in the Hadoti region of Rajasthan is a beautiful place worth visiting. Landscapes of Bundi are dominated by ornate forts, splendid palaces, and Rajput architecture which are beautifully carved in brackets and pillars. There are a number of tourist attractions in the region, of which Taragarh Fort, Bundi Palace, Raniji-ki-Baori and Nawal Sagar are very popular. The other tourist attractions in Bundi are Sukh Mahal, Chaurasi Khambon ki Chhatri, Jait Sagar Lake and Phool Sagar.
