Mumbai On High Alert Due To Heavy Rainfall, 5 Deaths Reported Yet !

Already 5 people have been reported dead in Mumbai and Thane. Two of the victims were infants, who died after their house collapsed due to heavy rainfall.

Heavy rainfall has left Mumbaikar’s stranded. The weather office has reported a rainfall of 300 mm which is as much as 10 times more than the normal, and have also issued ‘red alert’ as heavy rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours.

Dr A.K Srivastava, head of the climate monitoring IMD Pune told “There is a low pressure system over Madhya Pradesh and it is likely to intensify in next 24 hours. This well marked low pressure system is causing heavy to very heavy rainfall over Mumbai and adjoining areas. Rains will continue over the next 24 hours,".

Office and Schools were closed due to waist high water lockdown in and around the city. Flight and Trains are also delayed.

Mumbai CM Devendra Fadnavis has advised people from in and around Mumbai to stay indoors unless there’s an emergency. He futher tweeted:

BMC has offered across all its 24 administrative wards as an emergency and night shelters to the people who are left homeless and stranded in this disaster.

The good news is people and organizations are coming forward and providing relief to thousands of people. From hotels to Gurudwara, many have opened their gates to the victims of the disaster.

Five Flood Rescue Teams and Two diving teams are in day and night rescuing mission around the city.

Google has also issued an SOS alert on Mumbai flood.
