BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee member and batting legend VVS Laxman on Friday said that their panel wanted Anil Kumble to continue as India’s coach but the former captain was bent on quitting after his fallout with skipper Virat Kohli last year. Reflecting on the tumultuous phase that gripped Indian cricket during last year’s Champions Trophy, Laxman said the episode left a “bitter taste in the mouth”. “I don’t think Kohli crossed the line. We at the CAC thought Anil should continue as a coach but he thought the right decision was to quit and move ahead. It left a bitter taste in the mouth,” Laxman said at the ‘India Today South Conclave’ in Visakhapatnam.

Superstar Rajinikanth is set to launch a television news channel. In December last year, Thalaivar, as he is popularly known, had announced his decision to take the political plunge, and the channel is said to be an effort to reach out to people. The process of registering the channel has already begun and this would be the latest addition to the crowded Tamil political sky, where almost every party, barring the Left, has its own channel. The three names under consideration for the channel are Rajini TV, Superstar TV, and Thalaivar TV.
2016 Nawada Minor Rape Case: Bihar MLA Raj Ballabh Yadav Gets Life Imprisonment
Suspended Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Raj Ballabh Yadav, the 2018 Nawada minor rape case convict, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday by a local court in Patna. A fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on him.Earlier on December 15, Yadav and five others were convicted in connection with the rape case. The RJD had suspended Yadav from the party in February 2016. After evading arrest for a long time, he surrendered after a local court issued proclamation notice and an order to seize his properties.
Calcutta High Court Quashes Single Bench Order Allowing BJP’s ‘Rath Yatra’ in State
The Calcutta High Court’s Chief Justice bench on Friday quashed the single bench’s Thursday order allowing BJP’s ‘rath yatra’ rallies. The division bench of Chief Justice Debasish Kargupta remanded the BJP’s ‘rath yatra’ case back to the single bench to consider the intelligence inputs by state agencies. On Thursday, moving the appeal before the division bench comprising Chief Justice Debasish Kargupta and Justice Shampa Sarkar, the state government had expressed urgency and sought an immediate hearing. A single bench presided by Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty had allowed the BJP’s ‘Rath Yatra’ programme, setting aside the denial of permission for the yatra by a panel of three senior most officers of the state government.
Uttarakhand: Landslide Kills Seven Laborers In India, 5 Injured
The landslide killed seven laborers who were at work at a road construction site. Three laborers were severely injured and are undergoing treatment. The news has gotten the administration on their toes which dispatched a disaster response team from SDRF immediately. The incident happened in Rudraprayag town of Uttarakhand and the landslide took place after snow and rain since the past few days.
