Indian national Hamid Ansari who had been imprisoned in Pakistan prison for the past six years has been released from Peshawar Central Jail of Pakistan and reached India after crossing Attari-Wagah border. Hamid, a teacher at the Mumbai Management College, had entered Pakistan on November 12, 2012, to meet a woman whom he had befriended on social media. He was taken into custody by Pakistani intelligence agencies and local police in Kohat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Mizoram is set for a dry Christmas and New Year with the new Mizo National Front government’s decision to designate December 21 to January 14 as dry days as it looks set to bring back prohibition. “We have decided to immediately stop the sale of alcohol by government agencies. As for the private players, it is not possible immediately and we need legislation that will take some time. So as an interim measure we have decided that December 21 to January 14 will be dry days,” chief minister Zoramthanga says.
Assam Approves Rs 600 cr Farm Loan Waiver
The BJP government in Assam has approved Rs 600 crore farm loan waiver which it said will benefit around eight lakh farmers of the state, a move that comes in the backdrop of debt woes of farmers becoming a major issue in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections. “As per the scheme, the government will write off 25 percent loan of farmers up to a maximum of Rs 25,000 of all farm debts,” Assam Government spokesperson and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said.
